The grant has been provided by the Middlesbrough Aiming High Short Breaks fund, and the Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre at Hemlington, Middlesbrough is offering half day sessions on 2, 5, 12 and 13 March for the discounted price of only £5.00. They’re open to young disabled persons from 5 to 18 years old who live in Middlesbrough and gives them a great chance to try a new activity.
The sessions will include riding lessons and tactile sessions like grooming, tack cleaning and feeding the ponies, as well as other pony related activities too. All participants will receive a rosette and certificate.
Centre Manager Claire Pitt, said, “This grant means that we can offer taster sessions of horse riding and care to disabled young people at a bargain price. Maybe this will be the beginning of a great new activity for them – horse riding has been proved to be really beneficial in improving balance, concentration and communication. It also gives parents a childcare break, which is so important for families.”
She went on, “Our centre is purpose-built for disabled riding. All the sessions will be carefully supervised by fully qualified staff, and all our ponies are very experienced with disabled riders.”
