VOLUNTEER OPEN DAY AT DISABLED RIDING CENTRE

The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre, based at Hemlington near Middlesbrough, is holding a series of Open Days to attract new volunteers.

They are to be held on

Wednesday 23rd July 10 - 12 noon

Thursday 24th July 5 - 6:30pm

Wednesday 30th July 10 – 12 noon

Thursday 31st July 5 - 6:30pm

JOBS FOR SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS AT RIDING CENTRE

The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre, based at Hemlington near Middlesbrough has employed two new members of staff from its own Diploma students.

Tracey Wight 27, and Katie Addison 20, completed their Level 3 Diploma in Work-Based Horse Care qualifications at the Centre, and now have jobs as Learning Support Assistants supporting learners on the Level 1 Diploma programmes. Tracey also qualified last year, whilst still on her course, as a RDA Group Instructor and spends Saturdays coaching the Centre’s riders. Both learners completed their Level 1 and 2 Diplomas at the Centre, before progressing to the Level 3 programme.

INSPIRATION DRIVES RIDERS TO SUCCEED

Riders at the Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre at Hemlington near Middlesbrough have been inspired by one of their fellow riders to compete in the RDA National Championships this year.

Dressage rider Jane Lishman, who lost both legs in a catastrophic accident, and is aiming to ride in the Paralympics in Rio in 2016, has also qualified for the championships and has challenged the other riders to aim high too.

RUN 5K FOR THE UNICORN CENTRE

The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre has been selected as one of the official charities for the Active Middlesbrough Tees Pride 5k race and has ten free places for anyone who'll raise sponsorship for the Centre.

DISABLED RIDER DREAMS OF RIO

Jane Lishman has a dream. A dream that could just be possible, with a lot of work, a lot of money, and just a bit of luck: something that’s been in short supply recently.
