FAMILY DOG SHOW 2019

The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre is holding its highly successful annual Family Dog Show at Stainton Way, Hemlington, on Sunday 29 September.

Classes will be open to all dogs (and their owners) and will include sporting and non sporting, dog who sits the longest, child handler, best ball or biscuit catcher, best rescue and waggiest tail. There’ll also be a competition for under 15 year olds for the best painting of their dog.

Trustee Joan Northend said, “Who doesn’t love to think that their dog is the best in the world?  It will be a great chance for dog lovers to meet, show off their dogs, and raise funds for the Unicorn Centre too.  It’s going to be a great day!”

She continued, “The Centre is celebrating its 21st birthday this year, so we’re hoping that the show will be the best yet!”

Entries at £2 per class or £5 for three will be taken on the day from 11.00am, with judging starting at 12 noon.  The event will take place outdoors, but will be moved indoors if the weather is poor. There is ample free parking, and there will be stalls and refreshments.

For further information contact the Unicorn Centre on 01642 576222, or Joan on 01642 819681.

HIPPOTHERAPY SUCCESS AT THE UNICORN CENTRE

We have great news about one of our participants, Olivia Fairclough, who has been taking part in our Hippotherapy Project after she was paralysed in a riding accident in Egypt three years ago. She is now riding Alfie on a Torsion saddle, is riding off the lead rein and has progressed to sitting trot - all in three months or so!

Olivia's next step is to progress on to private riding lessons at the Centre with her goal to become a Paralympian one day.  Now that's what we call ambition!
