NEW TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AT DISABLED RIDING CENTRE
The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre based at Hemlington, near Middlesbrough is offering a small number of additional free training places for learners aged 19 years and over for next term.
The Centre has been partnering with Middlesbrough College for eighteen years to deliver work-based courses in Horse Care and Management. Next term it is able to offer fully-funded places on the full-time Level 1 & 2 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care programmes for 16 -18 year olds as before, but also with a small number of extra places for older learners.
For the last two years, places for learners 19yrs + carried tuition and registration/certification fees, but these are now waived now due to extra funds being made available from the College.
Centre Manager Claire Pitt said, “This is great news for potential older learners. The courses are really popular with our 16/17 year olds thinking of a career in the horse world, as well as providing a fantastic opportunity to learn in a professional riding yard. Now we can offer this unique opportunity to older learners.
She continued, “Apart from income from lessons, our most important funding stream is from our accredited courses, so this will help us to deliver more opportunities for our disabled riders.“
Additional Learning Support can be provided for learners with special needs and all learners can access Middlesbrough College’s facilities and resources.
Learners have lots of extra opportunities including competing, training towards RDA teaching qualifications, beach trips with the ponies and attending outside events. Progression into employment has been successful for many learners with several gaining employment at the Centre.
Places on the September course are limited, so anyone interested should contact Claire Pitt at the Unicorn Centre on 01642 576222 as soon as possible.
