There will be three routes for 2018: 10 or 5 miles or the new 1 mile option for lead rein entries. Entry is £10 per person to be taken from their sponsorship. And this year entry may be made online via the Horse Monkey website or through the Unicorn Centre office.
Perpetual trophies are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for the highest sponsorship raised for the 10 mile ride, with rosettes for each rider who completes the ride.
Centre Manager Claire Pitt said, “The Croft ride has been a regular fixture in the Unicorn Centre calendar since 2005, and we’re hoping that this one will be a huge success as we’re raising funds for a Mechanical Horse Simulator for our disabled riders.
She continued, “The Mechanical Horse will enable potential riders to be initially assessed for horse riding, and provide a valuable training aid for developing balance and confidence before riders progress onto a real live horse. It will also allow riders to receive dressage training and watch their progress on a computer screen. It’s going to be a huge asset to the Centre, but we need to raise £60,000 to buy it.”
There will be a small amount of riding on narrow, quiet country lanes without marshalls so high visibility clothing is compulsory. Ample parking will be available, along with maps of the route, a fund raising stall and hot food and drink facilities.
