The Unicorn Centre specialises in providing accredited courses in horse care and management, riding and teaching in partnership with Middlesbrough College.
The Centre has worked in partnership with Middlesbrough College since 1998 to deliver accredited Horse Care programmes and today offers City and Guilds Diplomas in Work Based Horse Care at Levels 1 and 2 to learners with and without disabilities aged 14 years and above.
Additional Learning Support can be provided subject to assessment of need. For learners aged 16-18 years the Centre offers a learning allowance of £20 per week and qualification for this is subject to satisfactory attendance.
All tuition is delivered on site at the Unicorn Centre, although learners have access to all Middlesbrough College's facilities and services. Functional skills in English and Maths are also part of the programme for learners aged 16-18 years.
A British Horse Society approved establishment and British Dressage competition venue, the Centre holds shows and events regularly throughout the year. As well as riding and competition options available at both levels, the Level 2 programme offers the opportunity for learners to train towards and become qualified RDA coaches.
Past learners have progressed into employment within both the equine and care industries, into further education and also onto the Unicorn Centre's Supported Volunteer Programme.
