Volunteering
Volunteers are the life-blood of the Unicorn Centre and so special to us. If you are 14 years or older, we‘d love to hear from you.
Volunteers take part in a range of tasks including: -
- Horse Care - grooming, tacking up
- Yard work
- Assisting in lessons: leading ponies and side-walking with riders
- Assisting at our dressage competitions and shows
- Training to become an RDA Instructor
- Administration
- Fundraising at our events
- Helping with our maintenance programme
It's so rewarding and not hard work at all! Don’t just take our word for it …

We welcome volunteers with time to give during the working day, evenings and weekends. No prior knowledge of horse care is required as full training will be given.
All volunteers over the age of 16 must undertake a DBS check. We also accept work placements.
If you are looking for something a little more flexible, we’re always looking for help with specific jobs as and when they arise from individuals or workplace teams such as:
Gardening - General Maintenance - Electrical - Catering - Carpentry - Plumbing - Decorating
Fencing and Field Maintenance - Retail - Fundraising - Marketing - Events Management

Our Volunteer Co-ordinator will be in touch to arrange a tour, a talk about the work of the Centre, demonstration of Basic Horse Handling Skills in an RDA Lesson, a Health & Safety Induction and Safeguarding Training. All volunteers over the age of 16 must have a DBS check. Once you have had your Induction and your DBS has cleared, you can start volunteering at the Centre.
