WOULD YOU BRAVE THE SHAVE?
: L to R: Sue Phillips and Jan Phillips have Braved the Shave - please show your appreciation of their courage!
TWO fundraising members of the Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre based at Hemlington, Middlesbrough are sacrificing their lifelong manes in aid of the charity.
Sue Phillips and daughter-in-law Jan Phillips from Stockton on Tees, members of the ‘Friends of the Unicorn Centre’ fundraising group are still committed to raising vital funds for the Centre during lockdown.
However with current social distancing restrictions and living apart, their choices were limited. So they have courageously decided to ‘Brave the Shave’ in their respective houses and shave their heads in aid of the Unicorn Centre.
Heroic husbands have been persuaded to wield the clippers on 7 May with video and photographs taken to document the event.
Jan said, “I’ve always been known as someone who like to be a bit “out there” with my hair colour choices, but this is an enormous step into the unknown. Maybe I’ll actually like my new look! But at the end of the day, raising funds for the Unicorn Centre is massively important to Sue and I, so we decided we had to be brave!”
Centre Manager Claire Pitt said, “What a sacrifice to make! We’re so grateful to Jan and Sue for Braving the Shave. Our income is practically non-existent at the moment, but we still need to look after our 18 horses and pay staff wages and bills. Fundraising is so important to enable us to get through until we can start delivering riding, therapy and training once again.”
