BRILLIANT IDEA WINS AWARD
The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre based at Hemlington, near Middlesbrough has scooped a national award at the RDA Gala Awards for the second year running.
This year, at a glittering Gala Awards dinner in London hosted by Clare Balding, Centre Manager Claire Pitt and Volunteer Co-ordinator Emily Richardson collected the award in the “Brilliant Idea” category, for the Centre’s Supported Volunteer Programme.
A GREAT PLACE TO LEARN
Walking through the big green doors of the Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre in Hemlington, near Middlesbrough, you get the feeling that it’s a great place to learn.
It could be the atmosphere, the buzz of the place, the hustle and bustle of people efficiently and happily going about their business. It could be their friendly greeting, making you feel welcome. It might be the sight of children and adults concentrating on their riding lessons, listening to the instructor, communicating with their side walkers or talking to their pony. It may well be the horses looking over their stable doors, ears pricked as they wait for the next bucket of feed.
GOODBYE TO A SUPERSTAR: BIGGLES 1993 - 2014
This week we said goodbye to superstar RDA pony Biggles. He ended his days grazing peacefully with the sun on his back, at the home where he was born.
Maggie Tansley, Chair of the Unicorn Centre Trustees, bred Biggles, and he returned to her when he retired earlier this year. This is Biggles’ story in Maggie’ words:

After 22 years of faithful service, Riding for the Disabled pony Ginger Pop has retired.
