15 YEARS AND RIDING HIGH – WITH ROYAL APPROVAL!
There are not many charities in Teesside that can boast of royal approval, but the Unicorn Centre has had two royal visits so far from The Princess Royal since 1998.
In 1998 The Princess Royal officially opened the Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre at Hemlington, and then came back ten years later to join in its birthday celebrations. The Princess Royal is President of the Riding for the Disabled Association, and is a massive supporter of the work of local groups such as the Unicorn Centre.
2013 sees the Unicorn Centre achieving another major milestone - its 15thbirthday, and although there’ll be no royal visitor this time, everyone will still be celebrating this special birthday. And as one of several special events it will be holding an Open Day on Saturday 27 April.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS AND STUDENTS!
The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre will be attending two events at Middlesbrough College this month to find new volunteers and students.
The first is the Volunteer Fair from 10am – 2pm on Wednesday 27 February. This enables charities and organisations the opportunity to show prospective volunteers how they could get involved. Our volunteer co-ordinator Emily will be present to talk to volunteers and give them an insight into what’s involved with volunteering at the Unicorn Centre.
DANCING HORSES AT RIDING CENTRE
The Riding for the Disabled Association’s Unicorn Centre, based at Hemlington near Middlesbrough, is delighted to announce that it has been selected to host British Dressage competitions for the Northern Region, including Para-dressage classes.
The sport of “Dancing Horses” became a huge favourite at the 2012 London Olympics with gold medal winner Charlotte Dujardin, and team members Carl Hester and Laura Bectolsheimer becoming household names. And crowds watched mesmerised as the Paralymic team including triple gold medal winner Sophie Christainsen, demonstrated their abilities as world class dressage riders.
